So it goes without saying that you should be using organic tampons, but if you’re ready to take that long-awaited inventory of all the other scary beauty products you’ve been slathering across your face and body…don’t panic! Here are some entry-level green goddess ways to green your routine without losing your mind.

Replace one or two products at a time.

Prioritize the items that stay on your body the longest. Think lotions, cremes, and deodorant. If you swap everything at once, it will not only be expensive, but your skin may have a reaction. Slow and steady wins the race on your conversion to an all green beauty routine.

Become a Label Maven.

Know what you’re looking for when it comes to ingredients. Women’s Voices for the Earth has put together one of the most comprehensive lists on ingredients to avoid when it comes to beauty and even cleaning products. Check out their website for the Black List. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is also a great resource.

Once your new green product is done, make sure that you’re recycling its packaging. Any plastic marked 1 or 2 on the bottom can go right into your recycle bin, which means it’s not only easier on your skin, but also on Mother Earth. Also be sure to support companies that make it a point to use recycled or recyclable or biodegradable packaging.

Coconut Oil.

Everyone knows that coconut oil is basically the cure to all life’s ailments, but this is by far the easiest substitute you can make on an effort to green your beauty routine. Coconut oil can be used as an all-over moisturizer, a substitute for eye cream, for oil pulling, a hair mask, cuticle cream…and even LUBE! (Yes we learned that from a porn star on a Vice documentary, but it’s true!). Not only is it multifunctional, it has a tonnage of benefits that basically improves your quality of life by lightyears.

What’s your favorite green beauty product? We’d love to hear from you!
