Are you one to drive yourself crazy on your vacation trying to stay super healthy? I was. There seems to be this misperception in society that you need to be healthy ALL the time. The mentality that ‘healthy’ is an all or nothing thing is actually not healthy. Trust me.

Shift Your Mindset.

I was traveling with my boyfriend and family to Chicago for a long weekend a few months ago. It was so refreshing because it was the first vacation in a long time that I didn’t drive myself crazy about eating healthy. I didn’t obsess about what I ate nor did I order salad when I really wanted pasta. I also choose to spend time with friends, go to yoga, and walk around the city instead of waking up at the crack of dawn to sneak off to the hotel gym.

Moderation is Key.

Taking a weekend off is actually more healthy than stressing about food choices. Enjoy your time with family and friends. I never want my lifestyle choices to get in the way of enjoying my vacation. Could you imagine if I didn’t experience Chicago deep-dish pizza twice?

Healthy is Not All or Nothing.

Focus on the easy things you can do while traveling instead of stressing out. Drink a ton of water. Sleep well each night. Skip the uber and choose to walk whenever possible. What’s great is these little things didn’t annoy my family nor did they take away from my vacation.

Overall, whatever your goals may be, cut yourself some slack once in awhile. You deserve it. Have fun on your vacation. Enjoy the deep-dish pizza if you’re traveling to Chicago. Kale and the treadmill will be waiting for ya when you get home.
